Avery Parents for Equity: Meeting + Fall Family Meetup

Avery Parents for Equity works to foster a welcoming and inclusive community for all Avery families. The group is affiliated with the Avery PTO and meets during the school year to plan events, build community, and help advocate for all Avery children and families.

Our next equity group meeting will take place virtually on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m. All parents/guardians are welcome to attend. We will discuss plans for the equity group's Calm Corner at Fall Festival, share updates from across the district, and hear from attendees about their equity and inclusion-related priorities and ideas for the 2025-27 school year.

Then, join us for a Fall Family Meetup at Margaret Park on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 9:30-11 a.m. All Avery families are welcome to attend this casual get-together, and donuts and coffee will be provided.

Avery Parents for Equity

Welcome

What is Parents for Equity?

In 2017, a group of parents gathered in a living room and started a group to advocate for children and families of color and explore how to make our school community more supportive and inclusive. In 2023, the group expanded its scope to focus on fostering a welcoming and inclusive community for all Avery families, including families of color; LGBTQIA+ children and families; families across the socioeconomic spectrum; families from a variety of religious backgrounds; families whose students have IEPs, IHPs, or 504 plans; and others.

The group meets during the school year in the Avery library or online. We are affiliated with the Avery Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) and collaborate with PTO-affiliated parent equity groups at all the schools in the Webster Groves School District.

Our Mission:

Avery Parents for Equity works to build community and consider practical ways to help support educational equity by fostering inclusion, advancing accessibility, and aligning for impact throughout the school district.

Our Vision:

Our vision is for Avery to be a school and community where:

  • Everyone in the Avery community feels welcomed and valued.
  • The individualized needs of each child are supported in their journeys toward personal and academic success.
  • Every part of our school campus is accessible to all students and families.
  • Students, teachers, parents, and leaders in the Webster Groves School District work together to create a flourishing environment that is equitable, inclusive, and accessible to all.
